The Fern

I planted a small fern in an old soup tureen and I just love the way it looks! It just goes to show that using unusual planters can make something really simple look wonderful!

Table Love

I am in love with this table shown on here

It's definitely not your traditional end table (which I love). I think it is the perfect size to place a beautiful vignette just like this one....love it!

What is on my mind lately?

Can you tell what I have on my mind right now? We are finishing up the changes we have made to the house plans and I am making some decisions regarding the kitchen. I have been scouring the www trying to get some creative ideas.

I have decided to do some open shelves so I have been saving pictures showing how others did them.

This is my favorite. I love that they painted inside the cabinets so the white just pops on the open shelves. The whole kitchen is gorgeous isn't it?

PB Globe idea

I love Pottery Barn, who doesn't right? They are quite pricey but you can get A LOT of inspiration by just  thumbing through their catalogs or on their website.

How cool are these globes hanging from the ceiling?

When I showed the picture to my oldest she said, yeah, that is weird. So I guess we probably won't be doing it in our homeschool room, but I think it would be a SO fun and unexpected!

New Kitchen Inspiration

I love getting inspiration from Blogland. Can you tell?

A few months back I fell in love with a blog called August Fields. Sara was just finishing up building their new home, something we are about to start, so I was scouring her blog for ideas and tips.

I was so inspired by several things that she did, but the most impressive to me was her kitchen.

Isn't it to die for?

Sara says she was inspired by this kitchen from Sally Wheat (via COTE DE TEXAS). It has been featured  around blogland  for a while now and is such a classic... with a twist.

Here are some more pics of Sara's kitchen...check out the wood beams and the pendant light!

Did you notice the open shelving?

I SO want this kitchen. It is so lovely and warm and homey. I think alot of that has to do with the color of her cabinets. Did you notice the color?

I have loved white kitchens since for.ev.er. Remember these inspiration pictures?

Well, now thanks to Sara,  I am thinking of doing my cabinets in the same gray that she used. It is called Benjamin Moore's Fieldstone.

Other people in the blogland have tried it including Susie. She painted her kitchen cabinets recently and blogged about them here. She even shared pictures of a gray kitchen from Martha Stewart.
So what do YOU think? Would you go gray or stick with the traditional white?

Bold Stripes

I love the way the blogging world works. One of my favorite design blogs to read is called Censational Girl. Have you heard of it? She has the most creative projects and inspires me daily to decorate with comfortable elegance.

Anyway, today she featured a new-to-me blog called Hi Sugarplum! Cassie did a fantastic job changing her son's room from baby to BIG boy!

I absolutely LOVE the stripes. I will be doing this in B's room. Having a feature wall like this, makes such a bold statement and really gives it a decorators touch.

I got tons of great ideas from her bedroom make-over and thought you might get inspired too. Go over and check out Hi Sugarplum! You will be glad you did!!!

Traci's Patio Reveal

I was so excited to see that Traci from Beneath my Heart posted her patio reveal. She has an outdoor space that will be similar to what we will have at the new house. I was excited to see what she was going to do with her space so I could get some ideas for my future space.

Boy did I get some ideas!!! It is beautiful! She did a fantastic job!

I love that she pulled things from inside her house and placed them here on the patio. It makes it feel like a true extension of her home.

Now I know some things I want to be on the look out for when I am out thrifting at garage sales and goodwill.... Mainly the lanterns, lighting and coffee table.

Hop on over to Beneath my Heart and see the rest of her beautiful patio!

Boys Room Inspiration

I love this boys room from Jones Design Company. The color palette is perfect and the stripes on the wall is to die for!

Love this easy custom art. It is just burlap, frame and personalized note cards. So simple!

I love that it is decor that is easy for the little ones to grow into.

Drop Cloth Curtains

I am sure by now you have heard of using drop cloths as curtains. They are so "in"...at least, in blog land.

I loved what Kimba did to hers.

Adding beautiful trim sure dressed them up!

Antique Bed

I have always loved antiques. There is just something about the details in which they are made and the history behind them that always draws me in.

While reading a blog recently, I came across this bed. Gorgeous huh?

This is the master bedroom of Erin  from Rare and Beautiful Treasures.  She has a beautiful new home that she and her husband built to look old. Which is exactly the style we are going for!

You can check out more pics of her house here!

Gallery Wall

I love this gallery wall and especially the lights!

I love how it goes all the way down near the floor. The bench is so simple, yet elegant...I wonder if my sweet hubby could build me one of these??!!

More Homeschool Room Ideas

I just wanted to show some more homeschool room ideas that I have collected over the last few months. If you want to see the first two posts I wrote showing other ideas, go here and here.

The different fonts and sizes of all these letters is so cool!

I LOVE this wall! The peg boards, chalkboard and bulletin board mixture is just perfect and the color is AWESOME! Oh and the cabinets....LOVE them!

I would love to have something like this for each of the kids. I can just see both long walls lined with storage and desk tops like this one!

To save on cost of the cubbies, these cool shelves would work just fine! The bars under the shelves are towel bars...how thrifty is that!

I love the burlap over the bulletin board along with the nail heads. Super classy. I will have to do this over my desk for sure!!!

Breakfast Nook

This is how I want the breakfast area in the kitchen to look. I love all the windows!!
Not only will it bring in lots of light, I can also watch the kids outside and enjoy the beautiful view of our land.

Living Room Ideas

I love the warm cozy feel that these pictures portray of a family room.

I want to have lots of windows in the living room so we can enjoy the fantastic view of our land.

These dark matchstick roman shades really warm up the windows, don't they? I think I would just have to try it out in our house to see how I would like it in my own home, but in this picture I love it! I also love the Carmel color couch!

Scot loves the exposed beams. I am not sure if we will do it or not, but I like the look in this room.

In this picture, I love the arched doorway that leads to the kitchen.

Note: I have lots of pictures like these that I have saved over the years. I am not sure where I got all of them, but the one above comes from Southern Living's website. They have such great style ideas!

Back Porch Ideas

Doesn't this porch look so cozy and inviting?

I especially love the sitting area by the fireplace. So what do you think? What would be a part of your dream back porch?

Another Homeschool Room Idea

I am loving these book shelves!

Can you believe that they are made out of rain gutters? I saw the picture above and knew this was something I want to incorporate in our new homeschool room. I know they will not hold a lot of books, but I think it is a great way to display their favorites or ones they are currently reading.

Raising Olives gives a great tutorial on how to make these cool shelves.
Check it out by clicking on her name.

I love her philosophy she says "that they encourage children to read more because they can see the fronts of the books and are intrigued, rather than just seeing the edge of the book and not being able to tell what it is about." I can see so many benefits having some of our many books displayed in this manner - I think clean up may be easier too!

So what do you think? Do you see a benefit in having books displayed in this manner? Do you have a unique way of shelving your books? Would love to hear your thoughts and ideas!

Mud Room Ideas

Here are a few ideas that I have regarding our mud/laundry room.

I love this wall with the sink and open shelves. It has such a nice airy, happy feel to it which is important when you are doing the dreaded laundry task!

I love this shelving unit for shoes, coats, etc.

The other wall would house the washer and dryer with a tall unit for our individual laundry baskets. I am still looking for a picture for that one!

Dish Cabinet

I LOVE this cabinet. I am seriously thinking of doing away with some upper cabinets just to have this for my dishes!

Isn't it gorgeous!
