G wall

Another summer  project completed!!! I created this "G" wall in our foyer. Most of the them came from HL. They are a variety of textures: some are metal, some painted wood, some stained wood, some are flat while others are more of a 3D effect.

In the middle, I put the last family picture we had taken on our front porch at our "old" house.

Family Picture Wall

I have been wanting to do a family picture wall for a long time and I finally got around to doing it.

Each of the pictures shows the progression of how our family has grown in the last 13 years. I love looking at these pictures and remembering the kids being so little!

In the middle I added the verse Ps 126:3 it says, "The Lord has done great things for our family and our hearts are filled with Joy."

The "G" came from HL and I spray painted it with a hammered metal spray paint.

I just love how it all turned out!

Adding a little color

I wanted to add a little color to the back porch so I painted this plant stand and table a beautiful Peacock Blue color. It is so fresh and vibrate!

Amazing what a little color can do to add some pizazz to an area!

Side Porch Cushions

I finally found some cushions for the wicker furniture on my side porch.

They are part of the BHG collection and I found them on clearance at Wally World. Slowly it is coming along. Can't wait to show you the finished project!

Hibiscus Blooms

What a surprise to see this on my Hibiscus this morning! It usually has one bloom per day so this was treat to see 4 blooms today!

The Fern

I planted a small fern in an old soup tureen and I just love the way it looks! It just goes to show that using unusual planters can make something really simple look wonderful!

Foyer Christmas Tree

Can you believe I got this 9  ft pre-lit tree off the side of the road? It was in perfect condition except  for a strand of lights that had some blown bulbs. We replaced those without any problem.

It is perfect for the foyer, don't you think?

Breakfast Room Tree

I love to decorate for Christmas and enjoy putting up trees in all the different rooms. Of course, we have not had this much room for extra trees until now! I had a few trees that we have used in the kids room, but none for the kitchen, foyer, dining room, etc. I did not want to spend a crazy amount of money to buy any either especially since it was a want and not a need!

So I will share my stories of how I have found a few trees so far!

I went to the Rescue Mission and found this tree for my breakfast room.

It was a pre-lit tree and they were asking $20 for it. We tested to see if the lights worked and since they did not, they marked it down to $5. I snatched it up knowing I could just add my own lights. My sweet husband cut off all the strands for me! We re-strung the tree and added red and green ornaments. Pretty awesome for only $5, don't you think!

Homeschool Room Tour

B and M's side of the room

M's desk area. Her verse cards which doubles as the alphabet, are posted across the front area of her desk along with some other charts and games from the curriculum that we use. There are also some of her art projects posted with sticky tack to make them easy to change out as she makes more.

M at her desk. This old chalk board, that was found in a friend's old storage building, is to the right of the window on the back wall of the room.

The good work board is to the left of the window. It was great that they are the exact same size so it keeps everything visually balanced (which is just how I like things).

S's work area. They each have a small bulletin board in front of them to post whatever they need or want. I have also used sticky tack to hang any teaching visuals that are needed from various subjects.

The door to our supply closet doubles as a game visual for M. The bulletin board in the corner has a dry erase  schedule hung on it. Each Monday, I write who has what test/quiz beside the day that it is scheduled for. IThis has been a life saver to have this info at a quick glance!

These were some free prints that I found online. I blogged about it here.

I love adding scripture reminders to this space seeing as we spend a lot of our time in here! Hope you like the tour, now what do you think?

Scripture Art

When I saw this print over at The Logan Family blog, I knew it would be perfect for B's room. I added it to one of the frames on his gallery wall. I almost have all the frames filled and I can't wait until I do, so I can share it with you!

Jen does an amazing job making these scripture art prints and she allows you to download them  for FREE! Thank you Jen for sharing your amazing talent and blessing us with fun ways to add scripture to our homes!

Homeschool Room - Rugs

We needed something to protect the floor where the chairs would be scooted in and out on a daily basis. I found these cute rugs at Lowe's for $13 each.

The colors perfectly tie in all the colors we have used already in the room.

Good Work Board

I love having this big bulletin board in the homeschool room. The kids are so proud to be able to put their papers on the board.

I have been trying to keep them rotated every few days to really showcase all their good work, which in turn motivates them towards more good work.

It has also given me the chance to use some of my old teaching visuals from college :)

Homeschool Room Paint Color

I have had several people ask what the paint color is for the Homeschool Room. It is called Spring Garden Walk #7768 by Olympic.

It was a hard color to pick out because I wanted it to look pretty and also not be overstimulating for school...does that make sense? I wanted the kids to be a part of the decision since they too will be spending a lot of time in there.

We wanted bright and cheerful. I think we achieved both without being too in your face. I think having a lot of natural light in there helps too! If we didn't, I think it would appear much brighter!

The Completed Desks

I am so proud of my sweet husband! He has done an amazing job on the desks for the school room! They are now painted and have the 3rd coat of poly on them. I can't wait for them to be completely dry so we can start setting things up for school to start next week!

Weekend Project 2

Scot is really doing a wonderful job on the desks. He routered the edges, sanded and started priming them over the weekend.

He had a great little helper sanding....

and cleaning up!

The School Bell

I saw this bell at TJMaxx and knew I wanted it for the school room. It wasn't a necessity so I put off buying it saying there were more important things the new house needed. Well, my sweet husband, secretly bought it for me one night when we were in there...he is such a good man!

Now it hangs outside of the school room door and is rang often! They think it will be cool to ring the bell every morning for school to start just like they do on Little House on the Praire...lol!

Progress...

Last night Scot was able to finish building the first two desks. Don't they look awesome!?!? He always does such an amazing job!

Cubbies on either side of the desk will be used for their school books and other supplies.

He even got started on the other two on the other side of the room!
