Another Homeschool Room Idea

I am loving these book shelves!

Can you believe that they are made out of rain gutters? I saw the picture above and knew this was something I want to incorporate in our new homeschool room. I know they will not hold a lot of books, but I think it is a great way to display their favorites or ones they are currently reading.

Raising Olives gives a great tutorial on how to make these cool shelves.
Check it out by clicking on her name.

I love her philosophy she says "that they encourage children to read more because they can see the fronts of the books and are intrigued, rather than just seeing the edge of the book and not being able to tell what it is about." I can see so many benefits having some of our many books displayed in this manner - I think clean up may be easier too!

So what do you think? Do you see a benefit in having books displayed in this manner? Do you have a unique way of shelving your books? Would love to hear your thoughts and ideas!

I love this shelving idea especially for a homeschool room. It has such a library/academic feel to it plus it's fun!

Our family loves books too -- unfortunately, most of ours are in storage in the States because the weight made them costly to bring over with us. maybe one day... but my husband's library gets first priority. :-)

One thing I always liked about a library was the feeling I would get when I would walk into the book area. I always felt serene in the library. When I looked at the picture, I felt the same way. Not only is it a nice, clean way of displaying the books but you are right, it would make for an easy clean up! I love it and think it would make a great addition to the room. Also, I love the fact that you would use something as unique as gutters for shelves. Great idea, Amanda!

I like the fact that it makes the books "instant art"... Like the idea.
