Kitchen Ideas

I can picture my sweet little kids sitting at this island having lunch or helping me cook supper...I just love how big it is! And I don't think I would mind washing dishes quite as much if I had these gorgeous windows to stare out of! Isn't it beautiful?

I am planning to have a triple window like what is in the picture below. I love the natural light and I want to be able to watch the kids playing basketball or riding their bikes in the driveway. The windows in the picture below are also more realistic than the "fancy" windows in the picture above.

I also like the farm table in the picture above. I am kinda thinking about this type of table for the breakfast area. I would want it paint black though.

I put up the next picture to show the beautiful wood floors and the BIG island!

I want to be able to put stools on the side opposite the window/sink. The end cap will have shelves/cubbies for display. The other end cap (where the stove is) will have outlets so the island can be a functional workspace especially for baking. The side where the sink is will be cabinets and drawers for extra storage. I also want the island to be a different color than the cabinets to make it look more like a piece of furniture.

This next one is a "fancy" kitchen....but you know fancy always means lots of moola! I don't need or want a fancy kitchen, but I would love to have a hood similar to this one. I am thinking this would be something my sweet husband can build to try to save money! The architectural elements are so pretty, but can get pricey...we will just have to wait and see...

I could show you lots more of my inspiration pics, but I don't want to bore you to tears! I will wait and show you the style and color of the cabinets, the layout, and some design things sometime soon.

I hope you are enjoying seeing these ideas. I know for me it is nice to have my favorites all in one place. Hope you are enjoying reading all about it!

Front Door

I wanted to show you some ideas I have for our front door. I want something that looks great, but also lets in light.

Of course, I have not priced anything yet and that will be part of the decision when it comes time to pick one. For now, can I just dream and not worry about money?!?

I like this door, but not sure about having such a large area of windows on the door itself. I love the side lites on this door though!

I like this door, but not the side lites.

I think I want to the side lites from the first picture with the door from the second picture. What do you think? Warm and welcoming?

Because a lot of people will use the side door (and we will more than the front too) I think I want something like this...well, with only one door!

Here are some other options for the front door.

So what do you think? I would love to hear your opinions!

Roof Decking

Here comes the OSB for the decking!!!!

My cousins, Billy and Josh, had a great system of bringing the boards around for the guys on the roof.

Building the foot rails so they don't fall off!

Jason even got up there on the roof!

Uh, Jason, aren't you suppose to be working??!

Scot enjoying every minute of it!!!

Here's what it looked like just before the rain started. Can you believe how much they got done in one day?!?!

The Trusses are Finished!

The rain held off today and the guys were able to get the trusses up and even got a good start on the decking!
When I went to take the guys some lunch, I was pleasantly surprised to see this!!! They only had ONE more truss to put up!!! You can imagine how great they felt about it coming together so quickly!

As I said, I was just in time to see the last one go up, so I was able to take a few pictures of the process.

My cousin, Josh, using a homemade contraption to raise the trusses.

Scot and Chris (my brother-in-law Jason's cousin) were on top waiting for the truss to be high enough to reach.

Finally, it is standing and they are able to secure it!

We are so thankful for family and friends willing to give up their Saturday to help Scot with the shed! Thanks guys!

First Truss is Up

The trusses were delivered today!

Scot, Larry, Billy and Brad worked hard to get this first truss up and secured.

Yes, that is a 12 foot ladder is in the back of Billy's truck an my hubby is on it!!!! Men have no sense of fear....I was assured that it was safe....I sure hope so!
They worked till 11:00 or so and were able to get up a total of 5 trusses. Thanks guys for ALL your help!

Cowboy Bathroom

One of the first things the kids said when we were talking about building a new house is that they wanted a cowboy bathroom. They LOVE horses and wanted that to be the theme. The problem is that they all wanted it for "their" bathroom. (The girls will share and B's will also be the "company" bathroom.) So to compromise we said we would make the upstairs bathroom the cowboy bathroom. Everyone agreed and was happy with the idea.

Over the last several months, I have been on the look out for things to use in the new house. My philiosphy is that it is better to spend a little here and there, than to pay full price later. That all being said, here is what I have found so far for the cowboy bathroom.

Last August, T**g*t marked down their college collection of towels and shower curtains. I waited till they went to 75% off and snatched up a few things.

I got the shower curtain for around $4. I got 2 brown and 2 beige towels for $1.98 each. I also got a 8 pack of washcloths for $1.25.

At our local kids consignment sale, I got this valance for $5. My plan is to use it as a valance over the shower curtain to dress up the plain beige curtain. I can't wait to see how it will look!

The border is this cool red bandana material. The valance came with an extra yard or so of this bandana material, so I will use it for a curtain for the window.

Of course, I am still not finished, but I am excited what I have found so far! The hunt is half the fun!

A few other things I am planning to do is use a real horse shoe for the hand towel holder. My
friend, who owns a horse, has one for me!

I also want some personal touches so I am going to get the kids to help do some things in there too. For instance, remember when S painted a horse on her award winning pumpkin? Well, guess who is doing some custom art work??

As I get more, I will be sure to show you! Can you tell I am having lots of fun with this???

Comment's are Now Working!

I did not realize until Scot tried to leave a comment and couldn't, that it was not allowing everyone to leave comments!!!! I am sorry about that. I fixed the problem. Everything should be up and running now.

So if you tried to leave a comment regarding the house and were not able to, you can go back and leave me one now!!!

I really want to hear from you!

IDEAS

This is a picture of the way our new house will look - at least something similar to it.

I love the side porch of this house and want it on ours. Not as large, but a small porch for the side entrance.

So what do you think???? I want to hear some feedback...please!

A House Full of Memories link

As many of you know, we put our home on the market this past summer. Although I am a little sad about leaving a house full of memories, I am so looking forward to building our dream home.

Over the next few weeks and months, I hope to start sharing some of my ideas with you. I want to know what YOU think so get your fingers ready to start leaving me some comments!

Drawing

I thought I would show you a drawing of our shed to give you some idea of what it will look like once it is completed.
